who we are. what we do.

After a medical mission trip to Haiti in October 2010, God led Mt Vernon Church of Columbus, MS, to begin a partnership with a Haitian community in the Dominican Republic. Many children in this community, Batey Central, do not have citizenship or the requisite documents to attend school. Mt Vernon partnered with the Rineholt family, missionaries from the USA, and Wilkyns Chal, a local Christian, to construct and support a school for these children. While support during the first year was sporadic, Children of Hope is the longer term response to the needs of the children. Although started by one local church, this ministry is now supported by individuals from across the nation. However, administration is still taken care of by a small group of volunteers with 100% of the money going directly to the support of the school. Through Children of Hope, students will receive quality teaching plus one meal per day. Bible studies are a central part of the daily activities of the school, bringing the light of Christ to this otherwise spiritually dark community.
